Newsletter: August 1999

MCGN is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization to promote spiritual and economic development of the people in Mizoram and the surrounding region by serving them as Jesus did (Mt. 20:28)].

CONGRATULATIONS:

Tlana & Madini, missionaries in Nepal have a new baby boy (Joshua Lalremruata)!

THANKS:

Bro. Jeff Mead has completed the website for MCGN in excellent condition, and it can be seen at http://www.angelfire.com/ca4/mizoram.

Park Community Church of Shingle Springs, California invited Dr. and Mrs. Mualchin to their deacons' meeting to present the story and video (God's Chosen Jewel) of Mizoram. They will be invited again for a presentation to the church body. It is commendable that they are willing to share the burden of other believers.

Canadian friends of MCGN (Stuart & Marjorie Spani, Dr. Adlinger, etc) of Vancouver, British Columbia. The Spanis have continually given support to MCGN and are looking for opportunities to help Mizoram. Stuart has accepted to be MCGN Co-Ordinator for Canada.

Interview by Christian TV Broadcaster, Bernice Gerard of Vancouver, British Columbia. Under the arraangement of Stuart Spani, an interview of Dr. Lalliana Mualchin was made about MCGN and Mizoram. It is to be aired at a later date.

Pastor Rualchhina Vangchhia, Spiritual Adviser of MCGN, for translating into Mizo the video script of Mizoram: God's Chosen Jewel. This has been edited by Mrs. Zotinkhumi Vangchhia and Dr. Lalliana Mualchin. The translation could not be done effectively due to lack of time but it is presentable.

Owens Family of Placerville, California for their uplifting friendship with the Mualchin family. They are reliable prayer partners. Particularly, Linda Owens has been like a sister (in America) to Ngeni.

Harold & Polly Kurtz of Portland, Oregon who warmly received the Mualchin family. They and Harold's sister from Arizona met for dinner and shared about Christian missions throughout the evening.

Stan and Mindy Myers of Emanuel Bible Church, Salem, Oregon. Stan was a former paster of a church in Placerville, California attended by the Mualchin family. The Myers have been missionaries in Africa for about 3 years. They have always been gracious to the Mualchins. They have been presented with the video on Mizoram.

BRIEF REPORTS AND COMMENTS FROM MCGN GLOBAL POINTS:

AUSTRALIA:

Mr. Vanlaltlana of Tuikhuah Tlang, Aizawl was contacted while visiting California with the courtesy of Mr. Lalchungnunga of California State University at Long Beach. (Both of them are engineers with Power & Electricity Dept. of Mizoram). Vanlaltlana is now at University of Western Sydney for graduate study in his field. He had been to Argentina visiting his brother and to various places of USA as a tourist. He is attending St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Penrith and is involved in a weekly home Men's Bible Study. Other known Mizos in Sydney are: Ms. Rinmawii, Ms. Lawmzuali, and Mr. Zodinliana. We expect to hear more about our Mizo people in Australia and their experiences.

CANADA:

Rev. Stephen Rotluanga, CSC, MCGN Co-Ordinator for Canada, has successfully completed his three year stay in Canada and returned back to India. He had a chance to see pioneer Canadian Holy Cross missionaries to Mizoram. He graduated with honors at Ontario College of Arts & Design, Toronto in only three years which usually takes four years. He was supported by English Canadian Province of Priests. He also participated in the off-campus program in Florence, Italy and visited places associated with the center of Renaissance Culture. MCGN is proud of Rev. Rotluanga's achievements and his support for the Network. He has contributed a significant article with Dr. Mualchin and a joint-paper "Tax" to be published in Mizoram was completed before his departure. MCGN wishes him well in his responsibilities at his home churches in India. We definitely expect more contributions from him for MCGN and Mizoram. May God bless him!

JAPAN:

The MCGN (Japan) hostel project for needy students along the Tiau River in Chin Hills, Myanmar is in progress according to information from MCGN (Japan) Co-Ordinator, Lalhruaia. He already sent 10,000 Kyats to Myanmar (Burma). He will send 15,000 Yen after he gets a response from Myanmar. Mr. T. Armstrong Changsan, IFS of India Embassy, and his family arrived recently.

Steve & Jemi Rohrer of International Chapel Ministry of Japan. The Mualchins invited the Rohrers and several families for a dinner in their home. The Rohrers presented a video showing their International Chapel ministry in Japan led by Jim and Barbara Blocksom. Steve is a tent-maker by teaching English in local schools where he uses the Bible as a textbook. The Mualchins also have shown the Mizoram video which was truly encouraging to them, and a copy was requested by Steve immediately after the show; he was given it in exchange of his Japan video.

Shing Mang, a life member of MCGN, is trying to go to a college in USA next year. He has to go through difficult steps to have a student visa and he is working on it.

MIZORAM:

MCGN Hq (Mizoram) has reported that they will be asking for a space in a state building under construction. Also, they are asking for office supplies as received by Dr. Lalliana Mualchin. They are quite excited about the office but are in need of a personal computer, phone, and other items for more efficient work and communication.

NEPAL:

We learned from Nepal about a frightening situation for Christians there. Churches have been burned down by Nepali Hindus. A rumor has spread that the Hindus shall cotinue this violence until all churches are burned.

USA:

Dr. Lalliana Mualchin and his family visited Mr. Stuart Spani of Vancouver, BC, Canada. The planned visit to Mizoram by a Canadian team is postponed till January, 2000. Mr. Spani is the one who produced the video Mizoram: God's Chosen Jewel and has continued to do much more.

Dr. Lalliana Mualchin has continued to work with the Fielding Institute on the planned Action Research Group trip to Mizoram in March, 2000. Scheduling and much more work about it is still in progress.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

Mr. Sawma of LPS, Aizawl, Mizoram for the video project.

Mr. Stuart Spani for his plan to launch tourism in Mizoram.

Dr. Lalliana Mualchin for his involvements with: Stuart Spani, Fielding Insisitute, Global Society, and MCGN.

"The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest" (Mt. 9:37-38).
