THANKS & PRAISES

CONDOLENCE

Our prayer and sympathy goes to Dr. P.C. Biaksiama, MCGN Adviser in Mizoram. His mother died recently. When death comes in a family, our only hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ who has power over death. Those who believe in Him shall have life with Him forever. May Siama and family be comforted by this truth.

BRIEF REPORTS FROM GLOBAL POINTS

INDIA: MIZORAM

There is no one from Mizoram to come to US to help Liana and Ngeni for MCGN ministry. We continue to pray for the right and God's chosen person. We have had bad experiences in the past; we need to be careful and wait for God’s timing.

Liana spoke to a Mizo couple from Delhi, Pu Rokunga and Pi Chhingpuii visiting the US for a conference. Pu Rokunga used to manage an outstanding hotel in Delhi but decided to do his own business. They are doing well and explore to have business connection in Maryland. We are glad to know them. We need more Mizos doing international business and keeping their commitment to God, like Pu Rokunga and Pi Chhingpuii. We wish them well.

MUSLIM WOMEN FIGHT INSTANT DIVORCE
By Geeta Pandey
BBC Correspondent in Delhi

For more than a decade Muslim women activists in India have been demanding a ban on what is known as "triple talaq" or instant divorce. It is a system where a Muslim man can divorce his wife in a matter of minutes. The issue has been highlighted recently after several Indian Muslims have taken to divorcing their wives by mail, over the phone and even through mobile phone text messages. The practice of instant divorce is banned in several Islamic countries including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia. But it continues in India.

TEENAGER IN CALCUTTA TO INTERNATIONAL EVANGELIST
"A survivor's testimony from the Sept. 11, 2001, World Trade Center disaster has catapulted him into an evangelistic ministry that he claims has resulted in more than 30,000 decisions for Christ," writes Charisma News. Calcutta-born 29-year-old Sujo John thought he would die when a plane crashed into the North tower two floors above him. He shouted "Jesus!" and called out to those around him, telling them to call on Jesus as their savior. "All around me, I heard people calling out 'Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!', then the building collapsed with a deafening noise," he recalls. Others died under the falling debris, but he managed to escape.

The following day, he wrote an e-mail to around 20 of his friends and family, telling them that he and his wife Mary, who worked in the South tower, had survived, commenting on how fragile life is. They forwarded his e-mail to others, and they did the same. His e-mail finally reached thousands of people all around the nation. Many of them called John, and some gave their lives to Christ on the telephone. The media caught on to the story, and bombarded him with interview requests.

Following his TV appearances, hundreds of people called him, wanting to be saved. "Sujo speaks about the ultimate truths in life in a very profound yet simple way," says Cheryl Wilcox of the Christian programme 'The 700 Club'. He was receiving speaking requests from all over the nation, so he worked Mondays to Fridays, and traveled to preaching engagements on the weekends. In April 2004, he could no longer cope with the double load, so resigned from his job and became a full-time evangelist

He says that a missionary prophesied over him while a teenager in Calcutta, telling him "God has a plan for your life. He will one day use you to reach millions of people all over the world." Sujo has seen that prophecy fulfilled; he has visited over 270 cities in the USA, Canada, England, Ireland, Norway and India.

Romans (NIV) 8:28. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who has been called according to his purpose”.

NEPAL

Lallura (Lura) and his wife, Sangtei are planning to visit USA in November. Recently, they faced a difficult ministry experience with a Mizo group. We believe that Romans 8:28 will be the result for all concerned. A group of young Mizos came to Nepal to work with Lura and Sangtei. In a few months, the entire group returned to Mizoram because of some problems. A combination of poor mission training and lack of commitment on the part of the group appears to be the main cause of problems. May the Lord continues to bless the ministry of Lura and Sangtei. We wish them well and let us remember in our prayers.

THAILAND

We received a practical suggestion from Zothansiami (Tetei), a Mizo lady missionary in Thailand on dealing with refugee problems in Mizoram.

Many refugees from Myanmar (Burma) came to and stay in Mizoram. They used to brake laws, bringing drugs, etc., and creating problems not only for themselves but between their Mizo hosts and themselves. In that situation, Tetei suggested that the Mizoram Government should inform UN about the problems and ask for help. Tetei saw how the Thai Government handled a situation like this and got help from UN. There is good reason that Mizoram may get help from UN. We hope someone in Mizoram Government take seriously this suggestion.

MCGN BOARD MEETING
We had a Board meeting on September 11 at Patricia Macy’s residence. Liana shared about our trip to Vancouver, especially a mission conference organized by the Indian Christian leadership in Vancouver area. This was mentioned in the August Newsletter.

Marian Hanna is going to write the guidelines for the Juliet Florio Memorial scholarship.

We discussed about the status of Mizo Electronic-Bible project. It was not properly handled from the very start and hence a great delay in its completion. We want the E-Bible to be posted on our website as a reference and to promote the Bible especially to young people. We also think that access to the E-Bible from the MCGN website should be for registered users with name and idenfication (ID) assigned by MCGN. Users will not be allowed to download E-Bible for commercial purpose. We want to reach those interested to have E-Bible in CD at a nominal cost.

Patricia made nice tea and bread for refreshment.

OTHER NEWS
It was good to have Rev. Harold Kurtz for two nights. He presented a dynamic lecture for "Perspectives on World Christian Movement" missions course. Praise God - he is only eighty years young, healthy and strong! He gave us good advice on dealing with people in Mizoram, India, and Myanmar (Burma). He is a good and trusted friend of the Lord. He noted strong points about more commitment by women in Kingdom ministry. He reminded Ngeni of a book she likes, “In Praise of Women”. Harold’s experience and love of the Lord have always benefitted and encouraged us.We do treasure spending times with him. I (Ngeni) really liked it when Harold said, “The Kingdom of God is out of control!” We wish him good health and long life for God's glory.

Thanks to Ms. Pari Ralte for advising us to choose words carefully when writing to her. Some of God’s people are in countries with limited freedom, especially in religion. Pray for their freedom.
