SYMPATHY
- JULIET ELIZABETH FLORIO:
Beloved daughter of Mark and Aleta Florio, has been with the Lord at age 18 on January 6. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to her parents and her brother, Andrew. We think it appropriate to rename our scholarship in memory of Juliet. May the peace and comfort of the Lord be with the Florio family.
The Juliet Florio Scholarship Fund was started by her parents after meeting Ngeni Mualchin. Ngeni really felt the family’s love and cares for them too. As long as we can have this scholarship to encourage students we will keep it in Juliet’s name.
- JUDITH RODGERS:
One of the Perspective Course coordinators in Rosevilla, California died January 13. We met her recently and could tell that she was on fire for the Lord in spite of her health problems. She was cheerful, smart, beautiful, kind, intelligent, all the beauty you can think of. May the Lord comfort her family.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Lalltlankima (Tlana) and his wife, Madini, missionaries in Nepal, have been blessed with a brand new daughter, Ruth Pratigya Lalrinawmi, born on Dec. 31, 2003. What a present for the New Year! Congratulations and blessings to the family.
BRIEF REPORTS FROM GLOBAL POINTS
INDIA: MIZORAM, AIZAWL
Dr. P.C. Biaksiama and Sangpari Mualchin (Partei) have been in contact with staff of Bible Society of India, Aizawl for printing Burmese Bible. Their enthusiastic effort is greatly appreciated. Partei is also working on Juliet Florio Scholarship awards for this year, of same amount and from same schools as last year. We want to continue in the spirit of the original donor. May God use it to encourage young Christian people of southern Mizoram.
MYANMAR
Pu Ralkapthanga (Kapa) has been very helpful in doing travel arrangements in Myanmar. In his absence, Bethlehemi (Nutei) and Lalmuankimi will he helping us. We are thankful to them. We hope to have productive times together with Christian friends in Yangon and Chin Hills.
NEPAL
Good to receive Himalyan Harvest Ministry (HHM) newsletter from Lallura (Lura) and Sangtei. They plan to come to the United States in January 2004. Lura is to visit their supporters in the continental United States, and Sangtei is to attend a leadership training in Hawaii sponsored by Haggai Institute. We are happy for them of this wonderful opportunity provided by mission-minded people. As missionaries in a remote region, they need time off, occasional training as well as face-to-face meetings with supporters.
In their last communication, we are glad to report that 5 new believers were baptized on January 7th. Praise the Lord!
THAILAND
Not long after you have this newsletter, we will be with Dr. Zothansiami (Tetei) and her friends at “Hill Tribes Development and Resource Center of Thailand” in Musekee village, near Chiangmai. As we affectionately call her “Tetei” from her childhood, we will praise and honor the Lord together for the ministry entrusted to her. What a blessing she has become to the hills people. Many Christians around the world are helping the Center. For more information on the Hill Tribes Center, visit www.handclasp.org website by Don & Kay Fox of Visalia, California.
USA: HEADQUARTERS
On Sunday, Jan. 4 morning services at First Baptist Church of Pollock Pines, California, we presented the story of two English missionaries sharing the Gospel to Mizo people more than 100 years ago. A phenomenal outpouring of the Holy Sprit took place there transforming the whole community from head-hunting to soul-winning people. According to “Operation World” by Patrick Johnstone, Mizo church is sending out more than 2000 missionaries today.
We received from Rev. Harold Kurtz a report on his recent trip to “Russia and Siberia.” He is a Senior Associate of Presbyterian Fellowship in Portland, Oregon. He seems to be doing and working more than ever before. There is no retirement for Harold!. What a missionary for the Lord and an example for us.
We also shared his vision of Christians working together at grass-root level, and stressed the strategic location of Mizoram for mission operation in the 10/40 window region of Southeast Asia. The church members were encouraged by the work of pioneer missionaries in Mizoram and the opportunities to do the same thing among the unreached peoples of the world.
We briefly shared our coming trip to Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and India.
A mission potluck-dinner meeting was held in the Mualchin’s home on Friday Jan. 9 evening. Liana & Ngeni Mualchin shared their personal testimony. It is always encouraging to have like-minded people to get together for Christian fellowship and sharing. The meeting was also to see off their mission trip to Asia.
Pastor Rualchhina suggested creative ideas when we will be in Myanmar. He said that some churches are not interested to get more members to avoid potential conflicts that may arise with more membership, and they certainly need encouragement in this area. To bring in more to the family of believers is the teaching of the Bible! We are excited what Kingdom ministry leads us in this trip and confident that it will be most pleasing to Him.
It was good to see briefly Rev. Harold Kurtz on Jan. 13 evening at Elk Grove. He was the opening speaker for the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement class.
COMMENTARY ON MINISTRY FOCUS - BY LIANA MUALCHIN
Our focus must always be on Jesus Christ, and extending the Kingdom of God so that all nations may be in God’s family. This is the ultimate purpose of MCGN! Too many times, people complimented us because of efforts “for” Mizoram or the people. I began to feel very uncomfortable. The compliment is well intended, but the focus is wrong. MCGN desires to advance the Kingdom from that very strategic location of Mizoram and nearly all the people (Mizos) are Christians.
While we are Mizos and Christians, these are different identities and must not be confused. There are Christians from many nations or people groups in the world, and Mizos are just one group. MCGN thinks that our foremost identity should be as Christians in the world. Thank and praise God for calling and accepting us to be His people. Our Mizo-ness is not as high or important as being Christians.
Confusion between patriotic or cultural values and religious belief must be avoided. Our Christian faith must be the greatest driving force in our daily life. From my personal experience, my faith in Christ is always my strength and foundation of life. My late father told me that I will not be ashamed if I follow the teachings of the Bible!
MCGN ministry focus should always be on Jesus Christ and extending His Kingdom. MCGN desires that the Lord bless also Mizoram to be a blessing to the surrounding region. Our strategy is connecting Christians from various parts of the world in a network to bless Mizoram so that it will be a blessing to others.
Let our focus be on Jesus Christ and extending His Kingdom. “Your Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven!”
