We are busier than ever! We travel, at least for us, a lot. We are like tent-makers. Liana is working full time. All we can do, finance- and time-wise, we spend for the ministry. We are thankful to some good Christian friends and our church (Church of the Foothills, Cameron Park, California) for supporting our mission trip to India and Thailand.
In the mission trip at the begining of the year, Liana and Ngeni planned to visit Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and India. First, they were in shortage financialy because of the big planned trip. After letting the church known, some support came to encourage the trip. As most of you know by know, they could not go to Burma.Their visit to Thailand was extended unexpectedly to two weeks. The reason was they could not proceed to Burma and must remain in Thailand! After Thailand, they went to Mizoram to follow-up connections made in earlier trips. After Mizoram, they went to Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad where Liana was invited to give a lecture. Following that, to New Delhi for an international meeting where Liana presented a paper. From New Delhi they made a trip to Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpore (IIT-K) for an invited lecture by Liana. After all these activities, they returned home to California at the end of February 2004.
Immediately after that, Liana joined Perspective class in Reno, Nevada which was already in progress, being scheduled from January to May 2004. At the same time, Liana was invited to review a technical report on earthquake safety for the new Rail bridge crossing Ganges river in Bihar. Before completing that request, he got another request to review an important and urgent report on earthquake safety for misile stations in USA. Both reports are important and need real work. Liana hardly had time for adequate rest until he completed the reviews.Liana had to present another paper for the 13th World Conference on Earthquake Engeneering in Vancouver in early August. There, he was accompanied by Ngeni. They participated at the Missions conference there organized by Indian Christian leaders. They found the Indian Christians actions encouraging.
When they came back from Vancouver, Liana got an invitation from Switzerland to lecture in his field on earthquake hazards and to key-note on the last session. The meetings was by invitation only for European and US top professionals. He prepared the paper which needs time and effort. Meanwhile, his office could not give much support. Liana said, “My hands are tied up here that I could not move. Now God is setting me free to speak out for public safety and perhaps representing many who had no voice in this field.” We see God's faithfulness and Liana's trust in God here.Following his return, Liana was requested to become the editor of seismology for an International Geology Journal. That is beyond our dream. The coming New Year may be very exciting for us but we want to do the right thing the Lord plans for us. We need wisdom to choose the right thing. We surely receive favor from the Lord and men as well. We recognize that all the credits truly belong to Him and Him alone. We want to be a blessing to others.
These happenings are more than we expected. We know that God is in charge in the affairs of mankind. May every nations hear His voice and know that He is Lord!Ms. Sangpari Mualchin (Partei) and Sapi (Wife of Dr. P. C. Biaksiama) started Women Jail Ministry officially from December 2004. They used to visit jailed women from time to time to distribute Bibles and hymn book without official arrangement. We thank God that they will visit the women section officially from this month. Pray that the Lord will use them.
2. MCGN-Mizoram Financial Statements. We now receive financial statements after Partei accepted to be MCGN Operator. It is important to have financial statements so that we can inform supporters how money is being used. In the past, we were never given clear financial statements. Thanks to Partei, we now have accurate financial status.
3.MCGN-Mizoram Computer needs upgrading as it becomes outdated. Fund was authorized for this purpose. However, it took a longer time to fix it because of the involvement of an unreliable worker.4.We ordered printing 2,000 copies of Sensei (second edition). Of these, 1,000 copies were sent to Lawngtlai where Lairam Isua Krista Baptist Church will be responsible for its promotion and sale.
5. Jail Ministry for Women has been started by Partei and Sapi (wife of Dr. P. C. Biaksiama). We believe that this is the right thing to do, because women section did not receive regular and proper visit by any other groups. MCGN will support the ministry.6. Juliet Florio scholarship was awarded to seven students from southern Mizoram High Schools.
Liana gave a short report on his meetings in Switzerland. We shared Mizoram report by Partei, as stated above under India: Mizoram.
Since Jeff Mead left California, Liana is always the only man in the Board. We pray and hope that at least another man will join us, even for the sake of Liana. Please pray for us.We are glad to have Jackie Rusmussen to join us. She is the one who created MCGN "receipt".
