NEWSLETTER: JULY 2003

[MCGN is a non-profit, interdenominational Christian organization promoting spiritual renewal and economic development of the people in Mizoram and the surrounding region by serving them as Jesus did. Matthew 20:28]

“The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Mt. 9:37-38)

CELEBRATION OF LIBERTY ù

·        God bless America! The USA will celebrate its date of independence and founding ideals on the 4th of July.

THANKS & PRAISES

·        Praise God for answering our prayer that books sent to Mizoram were received safely after more than a month.

·        To Jonathan Downs and his church, Calvary Chapel of Chifley, ACT, Australia for establishing an orphanage and school in Kolosib for people in Mizoram.

·        To Marian Hanna and Patricia Macy for their untiring support and love.

AUSTRALIA
We are glad to connect with Jonathan Downs. Members of his church family from Chifley, ACT Australia visited Mizoram several times, building an orphanage and a school in the Kolosib area of northern Mizoram. The “Susanne Downs Boarding School” was named after Jonathan’s mother because she worked so hard to raise money for the school. God bless them for their caring and love in Christ.

INDIA: AIZAWL (MIZORAM)
The 25th anniversary celebration of English Congregation was held June 7-8 as reported by Bro. Sam Joseph. Thanks for your prayers for the success of the celebration program.

Christian Foundation Institute (CFI) has been well received with growing support from committed Mizo Christians. Attempting to build CFI is an act of faith. We accept it as a long term commitment and will need more support from concerned and interested Christians. Our Mizo leaders are working hard and they just formed a group to start the groundwork. Keep praying to make CFI a reality soon, a critical need for Mizoram Christian development. Your contributions for this project are most welcome.

INDIA: KOLKATA
We thank a government mining engineer, Hriata Chhangte, for sharing his background and interest in “positive living” for Mizo people. Sharing interests, concerns, burdens, joy, etc. in Christ is what MCGN is all about. Though we are involved in different works, our common denominator is “in Christ”.  We expect to hear more from Hriata and others from Kolkata, the gateway city to Mizoram.

INDIA: LUNGLEI –SERKAWN (MIZORAM)
We are pleased to report that M. S. Dawnga, Director of Relief & Development ministry for the Baptist Church of Mizoram, and his co-workers remember MCGN ministry in their weekly prayers. We share the same spirit of serving. The relief and development ministry is becoming recognized more and more by the church for building a better community. It is a service that has no limitations. Recently, they provided shelter and aid for some people from Manipur who came to Mizoram due to community problems in their area. May God bless and prosper their works.

INDIA: GUWAHATI
We apologize for misreporting particulars of Malsawmi Jacob. She is in Guwahati, Assam and not in Mumbai (Bombay) and her correct Mizo name is Malsawmi and not Malsawma as reported in our last (June, 2003) newsletter. In Mizo, female name always ends with (i) and male name with (a)! Pi Malsawmi, please accept our apology. We are happy to hear about the release of her recent book in Aizawl.

KENYA
Rev. Bishop David & Jane Karanja of Nakuru, Kenya in East Africa connected us to work together for the extension of the Kingdom of God and edification of the body of Christ in these “last days.” This is what the first church did (Acts. 5-12). They requested us for prayers, continued communication and to visit them to preach the Gospel. After seeing MCGN website, they prayed for us before they contacted us. What an encouragement! We hope and pray that the Lord will open the door to visit them someday. Liana was touched by David’s email and requested for a special discussion and prayer in our quarterly meeting.

NEPAL
We are thankful for faithful contacts, prayers and praises from Nepal. We want to note that our friends in Nepal rejoiced with us for what God has done in Liana’s life as reported in our last newsletter. For this, we can deeply feel our oneness in the Spirit. We know that in all these, the credits belong to God alone!

Missionary members and friends in Nepal are busy in their work and some are unable to send official reports about their activities. We thank others who regularly share their experiences for our prayers and praises.

We think that information about Nepal from printed materials, websites, and emails are important for our readers to hear how God is working through His people. We will expand our report in this section from now on.

From the July 2003 “Daily Prayer Watch” by Every Home for Christ (EHC):
EHC workers in Nepal are preparing to use “Heart to Man” gospel booklets. They are praying to print 100,000 copies in order to meet the growing demand of this resource. The “Heart of Man” has been very successful in Africa, presenting a visual explanation of the Gospel (Isaiah 61-63).

SINGAPORE
We thank the Mizo community in Singapore for reminding us of their continued interest in MCGN ministry. They first contacted us in 2000 and recently, Liana wrote to Gospel Hrilvelthanga (Hrila). Some are in theological college and they are active Christians. They have regular Christian fellowships. We encouraged them on how we can work together. It is good to have the freedom of belonging and serving others. MCGN is one definite choice. It is the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit prompting us to serve others. We commend their love for one another by helping the needy among them.

USA: HEADQUARTERS
MCGN Board had its quarterly meeting on June 13, 2003 at Patricia Macy’s home. After dinner we had a long discussion on several items; including land for CFI, Mizo and Hindi Bibles for the inmates in Mizoram, distributing 100 copies of “Bible Inerrancy” by Dr. P.C.  Biaksiama to church libraries. Also, Liana shared about the Deeper Life meetings in Saiha and Lawngtlai, a letter from a pastor in Kenya, Mualchins’ visit to the Florios’ family in honor of Juliet Florio’s graduation, Mualchins’ desire to visit Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar (Burma), Mizoram, Nepal and New Delhi in Jan-Feb 2004 mission trip. We also had a special prayer for MCGN-Nepal, Juliet Florio, Dr. Biaksiama’s seminar for church elders, the 25th anniversary of the English congregation in Mizoram, and Mr. Sam Kumar.

On June 21, Liana and Ngeni met new friends in the memorial service for their previous church member, Mac McClure. Mac and his departed wife, Ruth, were committed Christians, helping the needy and supporting Christian missions. Years ago, Ruth’s sister, missionary Dolly Chitwood and friends started Kulpahar Kids’ Home in Uttar Pradesh, India ( “For the sake of a Child”: Anchor Press, Sacramento 1987). One of the new friends is Mac’s son, Bill McClure. Bill and his wife are responsible for Gospel Broadcasting Mission & The Christians’ Hour based in Onalaska, Wisconsin. We had a great time of sharing during our meal at the church. Also, Mac’s niece, Joyce Violet shared a wonderful story of the late McClure and read for us a poem to remind her (and us) of Mac’s life. We reproduce below that poem as kindly provided by Joyce. It is such a joy to be connected in Christ on any occasion, be it in a memorial service, in a shopping mall, during a journey, and so on. Let us encourage one another in Christ!

On June 23, the Mualchin family visited Liana’s mentor, Dr. Jack Davidson of Simpson College, Redding, California and his wife, Vangie. Jack and Vangie were missionaries in Japan for more than 20 years. It was a blessing for the Mualchins, especially for Liana because they are truly caring Christian counselors for us. Naturally, Mualchins shared about MCGN ministry and the many opportunities before them.

Liana shared the idea of the CFI, the proposed land for CFI, and the CFI informal board to our adviser, Pastor Bruce Moore. We are hoping to get together with him soon.

On Thursday June 26 evening, Liana and Ngeni Mualchin visited with other friends of Jail Ministry “U Turn For Christ Discipleship Ranch,” a ministry of Calvary Chapel with stewards, Joe Tuccinardi and his wife. The ranch is located in a beautiful wooded forest of the Sierra Nevada, very much like Brother Evan. K. Lianthanga’s Sinners’ Friend operation in Mizoram. In fact, Liana and Ngeni were interested to see this as they sensed that it is very similar to Sinners’ Friend. Joe told them his personal story and how the Lord led him to this ranch; it was an incredible story. They are planning to work with authorities so that they can serve more people having deep spiritual healing needs from drugs and serious life problems. It is a ministry of hope and restoration. The lesson is clear that it is only from loving hearts that any ministry can move forward. Brother Joe was deeply involved in ministering to hurt and damaged people after the “9/11” event in New York City. We saw several memorabilia on that event which tell what happened there. The greatest news is “Jesus Saves and Satisfied the thirsty and hurting souls!” What a wonderful story to share and tell the world. Thanks to Brother Joe and supporters for such a ministry of love and restoration.

The Headquarters Board in USA had a special meeting at Patricia Macy’s home on June 30, 2003. It was a good time of sharing and discussion.  The Board needs to make big decisions in coming weeks and we do need your prayers. We plan to have another meeting in July.

A TRIBUTE TO MAC MCCLURE
By Joyce Violet Kernes

“This was the most Christian man anyone will ever know. We all feel priviliged to have had him in our  lives.  His love of life and love of our Lord Jesus Christ will never be forgotten.  He had the patience of Job and taught us all so very much as we grew up, from building houses to living in the great outdoors and special fishing tips, and making his favorite peanut brittle.  He was also one of our American Hero's, serving as  Captain in the Los Angeles City  Fire Department  at  station #10 , downtown L. A.  for approximately 30 years, helping all of his fellow man.  His love of our dear Aunt Ruthie, his deceased wife, was the most beautiful romance there ever was.  He used to always say, "The best thing that ever happened to me was marrying  Ruthie"!
He also spent so much time with Ruthie in the missionary work that his sister-in-law, Dolly Chitwood, did in
India.  They traveled there and stayed for three months in assisting her there and continued here with so very much in the work and outreach here, especially in the "Saalam" monthly mailings on the happenings in India at the mission.”

The following verse seemed so perfect for Mac, as read by his niece, Joyce Kernes:

JOY IN SERVING JESUS
There is joy in serving Jesus
As we travel down life's road;
There is joy in serving Jesus,
Who's our Savior and our hope.

When the sun creeps o'er the mountain
at the dawning of the day,
let us thank God for His nightwatch,
For we serve Him when we pray.

During every waking moment,
We will serve our Lord, indeed,
When we live our lives for others,
aiding them in time of need.

We will serve our Lord and Savior
When we're honest, kind, and true,
When we live the love of Jesus
In the things we say and do.

Oh, there's joy in serving Jesus,
He imparts joy to our hearts,
And though nighttime shadows gather,
Never will that joy depart.

SPECIAL PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION INSTITUTE
As we mentioned before, God is bringing people to work together in taking a big step for the Christian Foundation Institute. This is a big undertaking for us that we accept in faith. We want to see God’s guidance. We have a big dream even though we can do very little. We know that God can multiply what we can do a hundred times! We believe that it is going to happen soon if we trust the Lord and are willing to sacrifice. We cannot forget the biblical story of the feeding of five thousand by Jesus. Jesus did it! We know that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He can complete our dream of the Christian Foundation Institute. Nothing is impossible with God. Please pray for this special undertaking.
