BRIEF REPORTS FROM MCGN GLOBAL POINTS
INDIA: MIZORAM, AIZAWL
MCGN AND SINNERS' FRIEND
MCGN Coordinator Dr. P.C.Biaksiama and Sinners' Friend Founder Pu Lianthanga provided full support in the ministry. They are willing to do whatever it takes especially for the proposed Christian Foundation. Dr. Biaksiama is a godly man who is a recognized author and a dedicated Christian apologist. He generously presented us with a number of his books published by Christian Research Centre. The Centre was founded by him.
Dr. Biaksiama, Dr. Mualchin and Rev. Harrison visited Sinners' Friend near Sihphir. They were impressed by what the founder of Sinners' Friend, Pu Lianthanga, has done in that ministry. In the midst of troubles in a community of God's people, God has always provided a remnant! That is the case in Mizoram where a person like Pu Lianthanga is a remnant, a proven leader in His Kingdom ministry
THUTAK NUNPUI TUTE (TNT)
The last Sunday morning in Mizoram we went to see Thutak Nunpui Tute (TNT). The meaning of TNT is something like, "Who practice the Truth in life". It was founded by Pu Sangthankima. When Liana and Ngeni went to Mizoram for a leadership meeting in November 2000, they heard about of TNT. At that time, Ngeni wanted to visit it, but unfortunately we did not have the time.
We were overwhelmed by the establishment and cannot, even now, express all our feelings. We had an orderly visit with each group and then attended their service which was in progress. There we noted another amazing thing--the children’s choir sang Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" in English flawlessly! Choir members were between five and ten years old and the conductor was an 11 year-old boy. We were impressed! Earlier, Pu Sangthankima gave us his short personal testimony.
In the establishment are 369 orphan children, 196 deformed persons, and 80 to 100 drug addicts. Some of the babies were just a few days old and some were older.
To run the establishment, 58 Mizo volunteers work day and night cooking, cleaning and washing clothes. Three young lady volunteers from Nagaland had to learn Mizo. TNT provides a school for the children. TNT does not beg for food, they pray God will provide for all their needs.
What an operation! An example how one person can make a big difference in his community and his country for the Lord's Kingdom. May the Lord be glorified through this ministry!
HNAM CHHANTU
Ngeni visited Hnam Chhantu (literal meaning is Savior of Nation) organization. Their main purpose is to develop economic needs by using available resources in Mizoram and applying any useful method and technology available. They have already produced a number of useful items. Our admiration goes to this organization that started from scratch and has accomplished so much. We are in full agreement with their philosophy of development and hope the people of Mizoram will follow their leading. We wish them all the best and may God bless them.
VISITORS AND OTHER ITEMS
We were visited unexpectedly by Pu Rohmingthanga IAS (Rtd) on his way back to Delhi. He presented Liana with a special book including his article for a reference. They had a short but intense chat of mutual interest.
Also, former Medical Superintendent of Serkawn Baptist Hospital, Dr. Lallawma, and retired Chief Conservator of Forest of Meghalaya, Pu Thangliana IFS, came to see us. Both of them have been our good friends for a long time. Dr. Lallawma and his wife, Dr. Sangi, are now working in Greenwood Hospital where Lisa Mualchin is interested in being a volunteer. They are more than friends for our children.
Isaac Hnamte, local businessman and Boy Scout Leader (commisioner), visited us. He developed and maintains a website that provides Mizoram daily news. We appreciate his interest in reporting MCGN activities. Isaac kindly presented us with a special Mizo handloom product and several books, including his own on the Second Coming of Christ.
On our last night in Mizoram, we were able to visit the establishment of our former MCGN-Canada Coordinator and the first Mizo Bishop, The Most Reverend Stephen Rotluanga of Aizawl Diocese. We were thankful for his generosity and openness. He is a multi-talented artist, and it was awesome to see some of his artwork.
Pu R. Vanlalzauva, Founder of Disciples Training Institute presented us his book and love gifts through his secretary. He himself was away in Bangalore, India for an evangelistic ministry.
In honor of Lisa's visit, her uncle (Ngeni’s brother) made a feast for friends and relatives. Lisa Mualchin had a good time and she continues to improve her fluency in Mizo.
We attended a Sunday afternoon meeting on the Thlarau Thianghlim (Holy Spirit) Crusade at Vaivakawn conducted jointly by several evangelists from different denominations. It was well attended and was broadcast live via local cable TV. We hope the powerfully challenging messages will be remembered by the people long after the crusade is over.
INDIA: MIZORAM, HNAHTHIAL
We were given a breakfast by Pu Thangluaia on our return travel to Aizawl. Liana was given an interview by Pu. H. Lalthanghuta, Hnahthial Times Daily Newspaper, for a cable TV FLM Vision broadcast. He is an excellent interviewer with his questions covering a wide range of topics of concern for Mizoram.
INDIA: MIZORAM, LAWNGTLAI
We were warmly welcomed by church leaders and friends. Bob and Liana were given time to interact with the people on the proposed Deeper Life meetings. After consultation with additional church leaders, it was decided they would inform us shortly regarding a Deeper Life seminar.
We visited the HQ office of the Isua Krista Kohhran Lairam (IKKL) and their medical ministry and were impressed by their mission work in Bangladesh.
We also visited the future site of the proposed library donated by the Young Lai Association (YLA). If it is God's will, the library will become a reality someday. Many things need to be done, and we don't know if this is the most urgent and important thing right now. From past experience, we know that working together is not easy--possibly because of distance and lack of experience.
Our cousin Nohenga made a feast for us
INDIA: MIZORAM, LUNGLEI
We were only one day at Lunglei. It was good to see Pu Kharmawia and Pi Novi who translated into Mizo the story of a missionary to Japan, "Sensei". And it was great to have a generous amount of time with 90+ year-old Baptist pastor Rev. Dr. H.S. Luaia. We had a wonderful time. Even though we did not see the MCGN leaders we had expected, we were glad for the visit by another interested person, Pu M.S. Dawnga. During a previous visit, Pu Dawnga took Liana and friends to Demagri (Tlabung). We discussed the possibility of ministry work in Lunglei area and decided to continue communicating with each other about this.
We also met Pu Nghakliana at his office and was willing to receive, send out, and distribute MCGN correspondences as a supporter and volunteer. We are truly thankful to Nghaka for his willingness to fill in this critical need. We must also note others who were requested in the past to help us, and we are counting on all of them. Thanks to all of you.
INDIA: MIZORAM, SAIHA
When we arrived, friends and relatives greeted us. Liana and Bob were given wonderful opportunities to share about the proposed Deeper Life meetings. The leaders agreed to have the meetings; they will decide on the date after consultation with their calendars. We had a time of good fellowship and sharing during the feast prepared for us by the church leaders.
We sensed a spirit of warm fellowship in Saiha. Leaders from different churches are moving towards unity in the Lord. It was wonderful sharing and fellowshipping in the Lord every night. Incidentally, the annual assembly for the Evangelical Church of Maraland (ECM) was held at this time. It was especially refreshing for Ngeni to again see friends in the Lords ministry that she last shared with in another assembly meeting some 27 years ago! We noted that a local Bethel Church provides a positive role in bringing people of different backgrounds together.
We are also thankful for other feasts provided by the Isua Krista Kohhran (IKK) and Liana's cousins.
We made a one-day trip in Bualpui (Ng) to see memorial monuments of Liana's parents and also to see the swing sets MCGN had donated. They were installed in a nice park with beautiful views including the highest peak in Mizoram, Phawngpui Tlang or the Blue Mountain. We were told that children love to hang around the swings. On Sundays, young boys and girls also enjoy the swings. All this encouraged us to think about putting basketball hoops in the same park. Hope we can do it soon.
JAPAN
Coordinator Pu Lalhruaia (Hruaia) and Secretary Rev. Joseph Raltong had worked hard on our trip. Rev. Raltong called church leaders in Saiha about our visit and requested them to cooperate with us. We are truly thankful to both of these brothers for their consistent support.
Liana talked with Rev. Raltong from Narita airport when he had a short layover on the trip to and from Mizoram. They were mutually encouraged as they shared about the ministry, especially this trip.
Coordinator Hruaia wrote to us during our trip to Mizoram that MCGN-Japan had contributed financially for the general need of the Rangoon Wesleyan Church in Myanmar (Burma). The money was sent to Rev. Moriss Liana. May the Lord bless the gift and may it be used for His Kingdom. Well done, MCGN-Japan! Pray for the givers and receivers so that the work continues until the Lord returns.
NEPAL
From Kathmandu, Pu Ringa sent us encouraging emails as we traveled to Mizoram.
He was also praying for us. In response to our partial report about the Mizoram trip, MCGN-Nepal Secretary Puia, whom we met at Kolkatta airport on our way to Mizoram, asked for more about the proposed Christian Foundation. Nepal had a meeting on December 18 where they discussed the Christian Foundation but needed to know more about of it. They plan to have their next meeting on January 26, 2003. We will provide more information on the Christian Foundation before this meeting takes place.
From Pokhra, Missionary Lallura (Lura) sent us a pictorial newsletter on their "Himalayan Harvest Ministry". It was a wonderful production showing the Mustang people in relationship to the Nepal ministry. They also mentioned some needs for their school in the prayer section.
USA: HEADQUARTERS
Our last meeting was held on December 23, 2002. After Liana and Ngeni had presented the Mizoram mission trip and discussed the December 13 meeting minutes of MCGN and Sinners' Friend in Aizawl, the Board agreed to work with Sinners' Friend, in principle. In the coming months, Dr. P.C.Biaksiama will work out the details of this partnership and the proposed Christian Foundation. A detailed report on the Mizoram mission trip is in preparation by Liana Mualchin and will be sent to members and friends of MCGN.
Received an interesting E-mail from Jeff Blade:
"Hi Lalliana, my name is Jeff, i found you web site on the net and saw that you guys have missionaries in Mizoram, i was wondering if you can direct me to any resorces that i could learn the Mizo language. Hope you are having a great Christmas. God bless. Jeff".
USA: MARYLAND
Our Spiritual Advisor, Pastor Rualchhina Vangchhia, sent us a Christmas message. We are sorry we are not able to mail it out because it was received late. Also, our long trip obviously caused tiredness and Liana was not able to attend to MCGN business. After a long absence from work, he was needed to finish an urgent work project before the end of the year. When you have something to share, we would appreciate it if you would give it to us in advance.
SPECIAL REPORT ON JAIL MINISTRYThanks for your prayers. In Lunglei, cousin Thluaitei and a long time friend Senior Evangelist Pu Rawntea came with us to visit Lunglei Jail. We had a good visit though the time was rather short.
In Saiha, my two childhood friends, Zingtei and Siami, and a lady evangelist speaker came with us to visit Saiha Jail. Ten members from local churches joined us. As a result of our visit, one Vala was convicted of his sins and prayed that he may live for the Lord. He accepted the call of the Lord Jesus.
In Aizawl, my former jail mates in Burma, Pi Biaki and Pu Muana, companied me to visit Central Jail, which is the largest jail in Mizoram. I had visited it once before in November 2000. For our present visit, God poured out His grace on my special request. Because we had only one hour for the visit, I requested the officer in charge, Pu Lalthianghlima, to have a combined meeting for both male and female inmates. I was told that they did not allow such a combined meeting. Thank God, my request was granted! The Lord blessed our short visiting time. When asked to respond to the Lord’s call, about 50 stood up. Pray that those people may walk with the Lord everyday and they remember the day they accepted Jesus into their lives.
The inmates in Mizoram jails have been provided with Bibles for sharing but were not given their own personal Bibles. My prayer and wish for them is to provide everyone with a New Testament. The total number of inmates in Mizoram jails is less than 1000, perhaps around 700 - 800. I asked, and was told, that the price of a New Testament is between $1 - $1.50. Pray that inmates in Mizoram jails will be able to get New Testaments of their own.
PRAYER REQUESTS
