NEWSLETTER: DECEMBER 2003

MCGN is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization promoting spiritual renewal and economic development of the people in Mizoram and the surrounding region by serving them as Jesus did. (Mt. 20:28)

"The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." (Mt. 9:37-38)

A JOYFUL CHRISTMAS AND A BLESSED NEW YEAR!

JOY TO THE WORLD!

"The Lord has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations," Psalm 98:2.

While walking home from a church service in Southampton, England, 20-year-old Isaac Watts told his father that the metrical psalms sung at their services lacked the dignity and beauty that should characterize hymns used in worship. His father encouraged him to try to create something better. So in the year 1694, Isaac Watts began writing hymns, and eventually put the book of Psalms into rhyming meter for worship.

Watts took the prophetic references to the coming Messiah in the Psalms and expressed in their New Testament fulfillment. His hymns proclaimed that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord. When Watts came to Psalm 98, he wrote:

Joy to the world! The Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! The Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and flocks, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy.

This hymn has become a favorite of the Christmas season. It calls us to acknowledge Christ as Savior and King, and to open our hearts to His rule of love and grace. The psalmist wrote, "Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!" (Psalm 98:1). Isaac Watts did just that in his proclamation that Christ has come, and we can rejoice in Him.

To find joy at Christmas, look to Jesus.

[David C. McCasland in "Our Daily Bread"].

BRIEF REPORTS FROM MCGN GLOBAL POINTS

BURMA (MYANMAR)

We have been able to talk with Dr. Laithuama. We are encouraged by the ministry in progress and look forward to meeting brothers and sisters in Christ. They are more than willing to do anything for us. We appreciate all the good advice from friends. We are excited to go to Myanmar, and glad to hear that it is more open than years past.

INDIA: MIZORAM: AIZAWL

Our Co-ordinator, Dr. P.C. Biaksiama (Siama) is as busy as ever! He just completed a timely critique on the movement of some Mizos who believed that they are Israelites. His research concluded that Mizos are not Israelites. We sincerely hope that people will study and be served by another work by Siama. We thank God someone do care enough to sacrifice time to write a foundational book.

We thank Sangpari Mualchin (Partei) for doing many tasks for MCGN. She found out the availability Bibles for the inmates in Myanmar and distributed Bibles in Mizoram jails. We are pleased that she took and sent us pictures of the washing-drying machine we donated to TNT and the scene of Bible distribution in jails. We have been waiting to have these pictures to show them to the generous donors. Also, through Partei's initiative, Mahruaia was contacted and he agreed to complete the Old Testament portion of the Mizo Electronic Bible project. Pray that he will finish before our trip to Asia. As the Bible tells us, we need to be faithful in little things so that we can be entrusted to do big things.

JAPAN

Pastor Joseph Raltong forwarded a story about the situation in Myanmar. From this communication, we came to know more about the condition there. This is particularly useful as we are going to visit that country. Pray that our visit will be mutually encouraging.

THAILAND

We are in active contact with Dr. Zothansiami Ralte (Tetei). She provided detailed information for our travel from Thailand to Myanmar. We are excited to see her ministry soon. Though heavily demanded by her ministry, her cheerful spirit and willingness to arrange our travel is most appreciated. She has been visited by a number of foreign groups.

USA: HEADQUARTERS

Liana Mualchin is really busy teaching global mission class, attending web publishing class, co-ordinating Perspectives on World Mission Movement class, and working on our Jan-Feb. 2004 mission trip to visit Thailand, Myanmar, and India. We plan to be in Thailand and Myanmar in the later part of January, and in Mizoram the first 2 weeks of February. Next, we will visit Indian School of Mines (ISM) in Dhanbad, Bihar where Liana got his Master degree before further study in USA. From here, we will go to Delhi, and finally to India Institute of Technology (IIT) at Kanpore. Liana has been invited to give lectures.

Thanks for your prayers and contributions for the Bible for inmates in Myanmar jails. Through our conversation with friends in that country, we came to know that Bibles are not readily available there. Therefore, Bibles will be purchased in Mizoram and sent there through someone. We may not be able to visit jails in Myanmar this time. Pray that we will be able to take our own Bibles with us.

On Nov. 19th, we had a long visit with Bette Sawyer in her beautiful house. She was involved in smuggling Bibles into China and Myanmar with Brother Andrews' ministry. We heard blessed stories. Also, she had good advice for our trip. We love to hear more of her ministry. She is coming to our MCGN meeting and hopes to visit our global mission Sunday school class.

Patricia Macy got the permission to translate "My Searching Heart" by Crying Wind into Mizo. The book is about a Native (North) American girl who became a Christian and served the Lord in her unique way. From this biography, we can learn many good things about the background and experience of Native Americans. It is a humorously wholesome book.

Brother Chacko Thomas and Frank Dietz: Liana had a chance to meet Bro. Chacko and Frank in Sacramento. Chacko is originally from India and now in U.K. with Operation Mobilization. He gave Liana a concise summary of India, "Briefing on India" by Glenn Myers. This little book has information about the status and balanced viewpoints of Christianity in India. We also received a modern classic "Which Way Forward Indian Missions?" by K. Rajendran.
