Newsletter: May 2002

MCGN is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization promoting spiritual and economic development of the people in Mizoram and the surrounding region by serving them as Jesus did (Mt. 20:28).

“The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray the Lord

of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Mt. 9:37-38)

THANKS & PRAISES:

BRIEF REPORTS MCGN GLOBAL POINTS:
INDIA-MIZORAM:

1. We are operating in a new structure with Co-ordinator Dr. P.C. Biaksiama. Pray that the Lord will use our new arrangement more effectively. As a well-gifted man who gave up his high official position to serve the Lord, Dr. Biaksiama has already planned numerous things to do. For the time being, he will be coordinating MCGN units, overseeing the ongoing projects in Mizoram, and will begin translating into Mizo a classical missionary story, "Cannibal Valley" by Russel Hitt. We were granted a copyright to translate this book by our good friend David Hitt (who granted us the same right for "Sensei"). Dr. Biaksiama became excited about the story and shared the book with a number of Mizo missionary friends who are eager for his translation of the story.

2. Lalbiakdika Varte (former MCGN-Executive Director) graciously accepted MCGN-International Board's request to complete the typing of the Mizo E-Bible. We are thankful for his volunteering to work with us. As he does not have a computer, we asked Dr. Lianzela to make our computer available to him for this purpose. When someone is willing to help, it means a lot to us. May God richly bless Dika Varte and his contributions!

3. Zirsangzela (Zira), Co-ordinator for MCGN-Chhimtuipui area, reported that all students who were awarded the Juliet Florio Scholarship have passed their High School Certificate examination and are ready to go to college. Congratulations to the scholars! We will send the remaining scholarship money soon. Zira has been instrumental in making the project a success. We are hoping to receive a list of next year's candidates soon. Thanks to Zira.

4. H. P. Sanga, General Secretary of Mizoram Youth Forum (MYF), has enquired about jobs for unemployed college graduates in Mizoram. We are keenly aware of the fact that very few job openings are available, usually in government offices, for educated young people in Mizoram. Most of them are unemployed for years with not much hope for the future--MCGN shares in their great frustrations. MYF is trying its best to find regular or odd jobs for these young people whereever they can. MCGN has been concerned about this situation for a long time. If anyone has ideas about how to help, they would be greatly appreciated. One idea may be to include training that can be used in Mizoram. MCGN has been praying for direction in this area of need.  We want to work with other friends and organizations who are concerned about the unemployed young people in Mizoram.

5. A brief note is in order on why we have a new structure in Mizoram. The MCGN International Board had serious reservations about the behavior and performance of  F. Lalbiakdika (Dika), General Secretary, during his visit to the USA for the Mizo Leadership Training (MLT). (A report in Mizo by our International Secretary will be given to MCGN-coordinators). Based on a prayerful evaluation, the International Board asked that F. Lalbiakdika be released from his General Secretary leadership position at this time. When Dika, Vuli and Zauva gave their reports on MLT to the Board in Aizawl, there was a discussion on Dika's status. We were told that the Board was not happy with the International HQ request and refused to release Dika from his position. To address the matter, they called a general body meeting on April  5,  2002 where only 19 (out of over 100 members) showed up. Their decision was to break away from MCGN International. We wish them well.

INDIA-DELHI:
Dr. Chinkholal Thangsing (Lala), a clinician and AIDS activist combating HIV/AIDS by assisting, supervising, and consulting in various care programs, has informed us of his new position, Director of AIDS Project with ACION INDIA, Delhi. We are very proud of Dr. Lala's high responsibility.  We pray the Lord will use him for His glory. We wish him well and may God bless Lala.

JAPAN:
Pu Lalhruaia, our Japan coordinator, reports that MCGN leaders in Japan are also key leaders of Mizo Christian Fellowship, Tokyo. They expect to have an MCGN meeting soon after establishing a place for their regular fellowship meeting in Tokyo. We are always encouraged to hear their reports. Pray that they will have a more established place for their meetings.

NEPAL:
Pi Vani Tochhong, MCGN-Nepal Secretary, sent an e-mail attachment that, unfortunately, we are unable to open. We have requested her to send us a new copy so that we can report on it in our next newsletter. It is always good to hear from our Nepal MCGN unit, knowing of their servanthood and encouragement spirit.

USA:

1. Liana and Ngeni Mualchin attended the memorial service for Mathew Dillon, the grandson of Dee Dee and Pastor Bruce Moore. The testimonies and messages in the service were greatly used by God. Ten people came forward to commit their lives to Jesus Christ. Liana and Ngeni had never before seen people come forward to be saved in a memorial service. The wonderful life story of this 4-1/2 year-old little boy who loved Jesus so much and the testimonies by his parents (owners of a local Christian TV ministry) were inspiring and powerful. We noted the reality of Matthew's life in his memorial service, as Paul said, "......Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death." (Phil. 1:20).

2. We are working with missionary Bob Harrison on a special project for Mizoram. Pray that God will lead us in to action that will transform lives in Mizoram. We are planning a monthly prayer fellowship meeting for Mizoram.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

·        For persecuted and suffering Christians in different parts of the world.

·        For Christian and missionary friends in different parts of the world.

·        For peace in the Middle East, Jerusalem, India, Afghanistan, Nepal, Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma), and around the world. In the latest news about Burma, we are encouraged to know that Aung San Suu Kyi, their political leader, has been freed.

·        For ministry to transform lives in Mizoram.

·        For travel mercies and health for Pastor Bruce Moore and friends in Romania.

·        For travel mercies for Kay and Don Fox as they plan to visit Australia for one year.

·        For Ngeni Mualchin as she becomes involved in a local Jail Ministry.

·        For God's people to work together in one spirit so that the world may know.

"The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few.

Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest"

(Mt.9:37-38).
